What This Comparison Is (and Isn’t)

When to Choose Each (Honest Advice)
Choose a diode laser if:
- You only do hobby projects or very low volume
- You have unlimited time to tinker and don’t do rush orders
- Your main material is wood under 5mm and you don’t need acrylic cutting
- Your total budget is under $1,500 and you accept limitations
Choose the Glowforge Aura if:
- You run a business where time = money (rush orders, tight deadlines)
- You want to offer a wide range of materials (clear acrylic, thicker wood, coated metals)
- You value reproducible results without recalibration – especially for repeat clients
- You understand that the upfront cost is an investment in capacity and efficiency
