The 7-Step Glowforge Aura Checklist: Wattage, Materials, and the Costs People Skip

If you're shopping for a Glowforge Aura craft laser cutting machine, you've probably already read the marketing page. I want to give you the checklist I'd use before approving one for production. It does not cut thick acrylic, thick metal, or stone. If a project needs those, the Aura is not the machine for it.

Common Quality Mistakes After Setup

Three things show up again and again in my reviews:

  1. Skipping the test cut after opening a new material batch. Same name doesn't mean same coating.
  2. Changing speed/power settings without recording why. If it works, write it down.
  3. Calling a product laser-safe without proof. Per FTC advertising guidance (ftc.gov/business-guidance/advertising-marketing), claims have to be truthful and substantiated. Your material test log is your substantiation.

Bottom line: the Glowforge Aura can be a good craft-scale workhorse if you treat it like a production tool. Define your materials, test them, keep a ticket, and don't fall for the 'one wattage to rule them all' mindset. The cheapest option is rarely the least expensive one. That's not hating on a budget—it's quality control.
